Thunderbird for Windows

Thunderbird is a free download from Mozilla available for Windows and Mac.

New Users

When you open Thunderbird, you will be immediately prompted to create a new account. Click this and select “Skip this and use my existing email” at the bottom of the pop up. Fill in your name and your email/password that have been supplied by us. Click continue and wait for a few moments. Thunderbird will try to search for the settings for your email, but you will need to put them in yourself.

Incoming: Change IMAP to POP3, put new.ionrad.com.au as the server host name.
Outgoing: This is your internet service provider. E.g. Telstra = mail.bigpond.com, Optus = mail.optusnet.com.

Click Re-test so the Port, SSL and Authentication fill out. Click Done.

You may have a warning appear about encryption, but this isn’t a concern.

Existing Users

If you already use Thunderbird you may have existing ones that we have taken control of. Because of the settings in Thunderbird, you will need to delete these accounts and recreate them. This doesn’t affect your incoming mail, but you will be supplied with a new password that needs to be changed.

To remove your email account, click the email you wish to remove in the left sidebar. Then click “View settings for this account”. On the bottom left of the window that has appeared, click Account Actions and Remove Account. It will ask if you’re sure, so take this moment to check you’re deleting the right account if you have multiples. Select Okay and your account has been removed.

You then will need to recreate your account. Click the “Create a new account” button you should now see and select “Skip this and use my existing email” at the bottom of the pop up.
